Baisakhi, or Vasakhi, is an ancient harvest festival in the Punjab region, which also marks beginning of a new solar year, and new harvest season. Since the migration of many Indian people to North America, Baisakhi or Vasaki has now become an integral part of the Indo-Canadian and American Punjabi cuture, and has also become a common Multicultural celebration and festival in the greater Vancouver region. This Punjabi festival is celebrated with songs, music, dance, and feasts. Lohri is an Indian festival of fire in which fire is worshipped. It is usually celebrated to commemorate the birth of a male child but now is celebrated for the birth of young girls also.
