The dhol  drum dates back to the 5th century. It was introduced to the Indian subcontinent via the Persian drum type dohol. The dhol is most commonly associated with Punjabi Folk music and Bhangra dance. It was used in war by the Sikhs and later used to celebrate successful harvests by landowners during Baisakhi. This barrel like drum has become the ground roots of modern Bhangra music and dancing.

The dhol typically implies an Indian Celebration.  Freedom and Leela often use dhol accompaniment for their live Indian Punjabi music events to create that special groove.
